First Assembly of God, Inc. was founded in the mid nineteen sixties by the late Rev. Stanley Mayhue at Water Gut in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Island. It was originally named Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church. At his death Rev. Abraham Fenton became its pastor. During his tenure he also pioneer the Frederiksted Assembly of God Church. After pastoring the church faithfully and effectively for a few years, Rev. Fenton migrated to St. Thomas, Virgin Island to pioneer another church, St. Thomas Assembly of God. In the absence of a pastor, the Assembly was temporarily lead by Deacon Webber until the new pastor, Rev. Randolph Lockhart was installed.
Rev. Randolph Lockhart became the pastor in 1970 and continued to pastor it until 1995 when he died. During the incumbency of Rev. Lockahart and his wife, Gloria, the church developed numerically and otherwise. From a small congregation it grew to hundreds. As a result of its growth, the church was relocated to its new sanctuary at Fisher and Queen Cross street in Christiansted. First Assembly of God continued to expand and increased its impact on the Island of St Croix. Outstanding young people began to emerge in singing, music and various other ministries.
In 1982 the church under the leadership of the Lockharts founded the St. Croix Christian Academy at Five Corners, Golden Rock in Christiansted. It has developed into one of the outstanding Pre and elementary private schools in St. Croix.
At the death of Rev Lockhart the Board of Deacons led the church until Rev. Junior Myers was installed as pastor in 1996. Rev. Myers and his wife Lauren continued faithfully and fervently the outstanding ministries of the Assembly for five years after which he terminated his service to serve elsewhere.
After the departure of Rev. Myers, Rev. Linus Gittens became interim pastor, with the help of his wife Catherine, for four and a half years until Rev. Seaton Wilson, along with his wife Rev. Jean Wilson arrived from his native country, Jamaica.
Before Rev. Wilson Arrived to assume his pastoral responsibilities, God gave him a vision to pursue for the continual advancement of the church: "To establish a world-class church that manifests God" through: Holy Spirit inspired Worship, Christ-like disciples, Soul-saving Evangelism, Church-edifying and individual-enhancing multifaceted ministries and an atmosphere of loving Christian fellowship that will impact St. Croix and the world in all areas of life. This is the vision that is presently being pursued. There is a deep conviction, based on prophetic revelations from God, that a mighty revival is imminent for the church.
The church has embarked on a plan to build a world-class multi-purpose center and sanctuary on a nine acre plot of land at Barron Spot, in the central part of the island, which will cater for the social, educational, spiritual and other needs of the people on the island and worldwide. Already the church has had a long history in mission outreach both locally and internationally. For over the past thirty (30) years it has been having a weekly outreach ministry to inmates and others at the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facilities on the island. It has also been supporting missionaries on a monthly basis through the Assemblies of God World Missions Department, USA. Recently, out of approximately 14,000 Assemblies of God churches in the United Sates of America, Our church was rated 216 in its response in giving financially to efforts in helping people experiencing disasters around the world.
